The Heart Behind The Hearth

Within the humble walls of Desert Rose Sourdough, we believe the craft of baking is a form of art, and that food should bring nourishment, comfort, and joy — never harm.

You may call me your Hearth keeper  Lady Embergrain — keeper of the oven flame, baker of wild leavens, steward of stories, maker of morsels, homeschool guide, milk maker, chicken tender, housekeeper, dishwasher, kitty guardian, and raiser of tiny humans… all while tending to the many wonders and workings of our little 1½-acre high desert homestead.

My path toward wellness began many seasons ago as an eco-conscious salon owner, where I created a unique sanctuary of earth-minded luxury and beauty. Then came a quieter season, when the world seemed to stand still and our family began to grow. During that time, my heart was called toward creating a more nourishing table for those I love most.

In 2021, while raising my little ones, I discovered the ancient art of wild yeast leavens. What began as curiosity soon became a beloved craft — a dance of patience, creativity, and humble ingredients. The making of organic artisan sourdough filled a creative space within me that had been waiting since my days in the salon, while the simplicity of traditional baking brought comfort to our family table.

Our household walks the path of many sensitivities, and so Desert Rose Sourdough was born with a purpose: to create a place where more families could gather around the table. A place where those often unable to enjoy the treasures of artisan bakeries might find something made with care for them. Along this winding path, many kindred souls have found their way to our hearth — allergy families, gluten-sensitive families, special needs families, and families carrying stories of great courage. Each story shared has been a gift, and it is a true honor to create foods that welcome more hearts to the table.

Never did I imagine my humble beginnings as a little “bread dealer” sharing sourdough with the neighbors would grow into such a meaningful calling. The stories of those who have gathered here have inspired a deeper offering — a more abundant collection of vegan-friendly, artisan creations made with organic ingredients and sweetened with raw or thoughtfully crafted sugars.
